Details of Career

The Georgic was the largest livestock carrier yet built and it was launched on 22 June 1895. It made its maiden voyage from Liverpool to New York on 16 August. Due to the size and deep draught of the ship it could only served the Liverpool-New York route for its entire career.

On 10 December 1916 it was travelling from Philadelphia to Liverpool when it was attacked by the German raider Moewe. The Georgic, with 1,200 horses and 10,000 barrels of oil on board, was sunk 600 miles from Cape Race.
